In this hypothesis, in fact, the wig performs a health function to all intents and purposes and can be fully considered as any medical device intended by the manufacturer to be used to mitigate illnesses or injuries and marketed with these purposes.

In particular, the wig is included among the deductible health costs in cases where it is used by cancer patients to overcome the psychological difficulties associated with hair loss caused by chemotherapy treatments.

Wig Bonus

Furthermore, on 5 February 2020, the Sardinia region approved the guidelines for the implementation of article 4, paragraph 21, of Regional Law number 20 (approved on 6 December 2019), which authorizes the loan of 200 thousand euros for a contribution to the purchase of wigs for patients affected by alopecia following chemotherapy.

The contribution of the Region will especially help those who, due to economic difficulties, cannot afford to buy one. The approved guidelines distribute the resources for the 8 social and health areas of the Region and establish the maximum amount of the contribution at 150 euros per person.

For those who have residence in another region of Italy, below is the list of regions that have approved the bonus for the purchase of wigs: Abruzzo, Basilicata, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Puglia, Tuscany, Trentino Alto-Adige, Umbria,  Veneto.
